The department will develop action plans to maximize potential and mitigate disruptions
The Department of Commerce announced that it has identified critical production sectors that can further develop America’s supply chain stability. The COVID-19 pandemic revealed a number of weaknesses in America’s domestic supply chain. To address the shortcomings, the U.S. Supply Chain Council for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) has developed a list of critical sectors and key goods, and intends to send supply chain action plans to companies and authorities linked to their list.
“Ultimately, sectors and goods notified by multiple Parties may be selected as the subject of Action Plans to identify shared vulnerabilities and opportunities to build resilience,” the Commerce Department stated. “The United States does not anticipate that all of the sectors and goods on this list will be selected for Action Plans, which will be decided by the Council. This list can be updated in the future as needed.”
